Compliance Standards / High-Risk Items for Fibre and Rope Tows
The components listed below are high-risk items that must be inspected regularly to ensure public safety. During periodic inspections, TSSA inspectors will be checking these items and orders will be issued for non-compliance.
Note: In some circumstances, orders may be issued where high-risk safety hazards are discovered which are not identified in this standard.
SHUT DOWN - If an item is deficient and an order is issued for immediate compliance (0 days for the compliance time):
A repair can be done immediately during the maintenance unless it is a reportable incident according to the Incident Reporting Guidelines. Even if it is a reportable incident, a TSSA Supervisor or Investigator can authorize an immediate repair
REPAIR / REPLACE - If the item is deficient and an order is issued for compliance within a 14-day time period:

Counterweight - CWT

The counterweight shall be in full suspension at all times during operation. | REPAIR / REPLACE |
Tow Path

If the snow depth does not prevent lift off of passengers from the tow path. | SHUT DOWN |
If the tow path does not extend 1.5 times the stopping distance beyond the safety gate. | REPAIR / REPLACE |
If a clearance of 0.9 metres between the uphill rope and any obstructions between the loading and unloading area does not exist. | SHUT DOWN |

Wire Rope Tow

The horizontal distance between uphill and downhill ropes exceeds twice the projection of any carrier attached to the haul rope. Note: This distance shall not be less than 1.0 metres for tows up to 100 metres in length and 1.4 metres in slope length and 1.4 metres for tows over 100 metres in slope length. | SHUT DOWN |
