After a Certificate of Authorization (COA) audit has been scheduled, an administrator from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) will provide you with the contact information of the Quality Assessment Specialist who will be conducting the audit.
You can reach out to the Quality Assessment Specialist if you have questions about your upcoming audit.
The Quality Assessment Specialist will review your Quality Program Manual and completed checklist(s) to ensure:
Everything in your manual conforms to the checklist
The manual best describes the way your company will maintain control of the activities within it
New companies will be required to provide a demonstration item to show adequate controls for the activities stated in their Quality Program Manual.
Manufacturers of piping systems should follow the Implementation Guideline for Piping System Fabricators, Installers, Repairers and Alterers (pdf).
Manufacturers of boilers or pressure vessels should follow the Implementation Guideline for Boiler or Pressure Vessel Manufacturers (pdf).
Any deficiencies found during the audit will need to be addressed before TSSA issues a COA.
TSSA will issue a COA within two weeks of the successful completion of the audit.
A company is authorized to begin work when they have passed the audit.
The following additional requirements apply if your company is applying as a boiler or pressure-vessel manufacturer:
The audit will take place over two days. On the first day, the Audit Team will review your Quality Program Manual. Comments will be presented to you during the start of the second day at your facility.
Your local Authorized Inspector (a part of the Audit Team) must be notified before manufacturing of the demonstration item starts. The demonstration item must be in-progress during the time of the Audit per the Implementation Guideline for Boiler or Pressure Vessel Manufacturers (pdf).
