Late Payment Fee

Late payment fees encourage on-time renewals and reduce regulatory costs.

All entities regulated by TSSA must maintain a valid authorization to operate. Timely renewal of authorizations by individuals and organizations is crucial to keeping Ontario safe. Overdue renewals can pose potential safety risks to Ontarians and result in additional oversight costs. To this end, TSSA has a Late Payment Fee for licenses and other authorizations to encourage on-time renewals and reduce regulatory costs.

Late Payment Fee applies to all industries regulated by TSSA except for Boiler and Pressure Vessel Certificates of Inspection and Amusement Device permits. This fee will be charged for delayed payments related to licences, registrations, and certificates that allow devices, facilities, equipment, businesses, and individuals to operate legally.

Fee Structure

The Late Payment Fee will be a flat fee, charged only when invoices are paid after the authorization expiry date. The fees are as follows:

Authorization TypeLate Payment Fee
Individuals (Certificates for individuals)$50 per late renewal
Organizations or Devices (e.g. licences, registrations)$75 per late renewal

The Late Payment Fee will be automatically applied one day after the authorization expiry date. If an authorization has been expired for more than 365 days and requires reinstatement, the Late Payment Fee will also apply.

For more information, please refer to TSSA’s fee schedule.

Pay Invoice On Time
Paying authorization renewal invoices on or before the expiry date is the best way to avoid the late payment fee. Invoices are sent 60 days before the authorization expiry date followed by a series of notices and reminders. Authorization holders should keep their contact information up to date with TSSA. Please visit TSSA’s new Client Portal and create a portal login so you can link to and update your account online. Once in the portal, clients can verify their contact and mailing information and view their invoices.

Fee Appeal
TSSA may consider waiving the Late Payment Fee only under exceptional circumstances. Authorization holders can call TSSA’s Customer Contact Centre to make a request that TSSA waives the fee with a valid reason. Each request will be reviewed, and a decision will be given. If the waiver is not granted, client can appeal the decision through TSSA’s formal appeals process.
