As a regulator, TSSA conducts inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations. When customers cancel inspections on short notice, it leads to inefficiencies and additional costs. To address this, TSSA has introduced Inspection Appointment Cancellation Fee.
The Inspection Appointment Cancellation Fee applies to cancellations made with two business days' notice or less. It will also apply if a scheduled inspection cannot be completed because the customer is not ready.
The Inspection Appointment Cancellation Fee is based on the hourly inspection labour rate. Customer will be billed one hour of labour for cancelling or rescheduling with two or one business day's notice prior to the inspection date. Same day cancellations or situations where the customer is not ready for the inspection will be charged the full inspection fee.
Customers who cancel an inspection appointment three or more business days prior to the inspection date will not incur the cancellation fee. If a request is made with less than three business days' notice, the following fees will apply:
Cancellation Type | Cancellation Fee |
Cancellation or rescheduling one or two business days prior to scheduled inspection date | One hour inspection labour rate ($147 - $192, subject to the regulated industry) |
Same day cancellations or customer not ready | Full inspection fee ($163 - $1,591, depending on the inspection type) |
Below is an illustration of the situations when a cancellation needs to be submitted to avoid a cancellation fee.
Please refer to the fee schedules for further details about specific charges.
To avoid the cancellation fee, plan ahead and cancel or reschedule an inspection at least three business days in advance. Notice of cancellation of an appointment can be made on TSSA's Client Portal or sent to these email addresses:
When submitting a cancellation on TSSA Client Portal or by email, please provide work order number, the date of scheduled inspection and the reason for cancellation.
TSSA may consider waiving the Inspection Appointment Cancellation Fee only under exceptional circumstances. Clients can call TSSA’s Customer Contact Centre to request that TSSA waives the fee with a valid reason. Each request will be reviewed, and a decision will be provided. If the waiver is not granted, client can appeal the decision through TSSA’s formal appeals process.
All customer-initiated cancellations, including those for new or modified devices/facilities and contractor pre-registrations, are subject to the fee.
Periodic inspections, contractor audits and other inspections initiated by TSSA are not subject to the cancellation fee at this time.
No. If TSSA cancels the inspection, the customer will not be charged a cancellation fee.
The fee is based on the inspection labour rate. A one-hour labour charge applies for cancellations made with two or one business day's notice prior to the inspection date. Same-day cancellations or instances where the customer is not ready will be charged the full inspection fee. The full fee is determined based on a standard fee for the particular type of inspection that was planned , which reflects the number of hours the inspector was scheduled for. No fee applies if the cancellation is made three or more business days prior to the inspection date. For specific cancellation fees, please refer to the fee schedule.
