Safety and Risk Officer

Deepak Jaswal, LLB, CTPRP, is the Safety and Risk Officer for Ontario’s Technical Standards and Safety Authority.

The Technical Standards and Safety Authority’s Safety and Risk Officer independently reviews and assesses the way we administer our public safety responsibilities under the Technical Standards and Safety Act.

He prepares public reports on our safety activities and performance.

He also prepares reports for any safety matters that he, the TSSA Board of Directors, or the Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement identifies as being in the public interest.

The Safety and Risk Officer position was established when amendments were made to Ontario’s Technical Standards and Safety Act. He reports directly to TSSA's Board of Directors. His responsibilities are outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding between TSSA and the Minister.

About Deepak Jaswal, LLB, CTPRP — Chief Safety and Risk Officer

Deepak was appointed as Ontario's Chief Safety Risk Officer by the TSSA Board of Directors for a term of five years commencing November 1, 2024. Deepak holds a Bachelor of Laws and is a certified third-party risk professional and brings over 15 years of risk management experience. He has supported organizations to review their approaches to risk management and assisted them in developing and augmenting existing processes and controls to help better control costs, drive service excellence and mitigate risks to gain increased value. He also has strong experience performing policy and contract reviews and has been called on for subject matter expertise in the execution of several reviews nationally. 

Deepak brings with him a strong understanding of TSSA's operating environment having supported the organization in the execution of several audits and advisory engagements over the past decade.

During his time in professional services, he has supported a variety of both private and public-sector organizations. He has significant experience working alongside and supporting organizations including government agencies, administrative authorities, municipalities, provincial regulators and crown corporations.
