Responsibilities of Amusement Device Owner/Operators

Device Compliance

Above all, amusement device owners and operators are responsible for full compliance of devices in accordance with:  

• Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000

• Ontario Regulation 221/01 - Amusement Devices

• Amusment Devices Code Adoption Document Amendments 541/21 (pdf) 

• ASTM-F24 Standard Practice for Design, Manufacture, Operations, Maintenance, and Inspection of Amusement Rides and Devices, in Canada

• Ontario Regulation 187/03: Certification and Training of Amusement Device Mechanics

• All applicable Director's Orders

• All applicable advisories, bulletins, and guidelines

• All applicable manufacturers' bulletins

Incident Reporting

• An “incident” is defined as a consequence to a person or property.

• Incident reporting is required by law 

• Refer to Director’s Guideline 

• Promptly report all incidents, accidents, and hazardous conditions to the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA)

Other Responsibilities

Amusement Device owner and operators must also:

• Stay current with all licensing requirements for amusement devices

• Report any owner information changes within 10 days.

• Ensure devices are operated in accordance with all regulations and manufacturer’s specifications

• Hire only qualified, certified mechanics to perform maintenance work or make alterations to equipment.
